Fire Wine at the 4th Summer School in Evidence for Policy in Disaster Risk Management held in Barcelona

The FIRE WINE initiative took part in the 4th edition of the Summer School in Evidence for Policy in Disaster Risk Management, held from 29 September to 1 October in Barcelona. The training programme, organised by the Knowledge Network of the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, brought together 120 civil protection professionals and researchers specialising in all kinds of risks — from environmental and health-related to technological — coming from across Europe.

The course aims to enhance participants’ knowledge of evidence-based policy design, while also fostering a network of experts in the field. Within this framework, during the welcome dinner, researcher Elena Górriz from the Centre de Ciència i Tecnologia Forestal de Catalunya (CTFC) presented a demonstration of the FIRE WINE initiative. Participants gained first-hand insight into the need to keep agricultural fields near forests active to reduce fire risk and shape more resilient landscapes.

In addition, attendees had the opportunity to taste wines from the ABADAL winery, representative of the FIRE WINE brand through the vineyards managed in the Bages region, which also produces oil and honey.
